Daily Life Talks: It Was Your Experience

it was your experience

It wasn’t your opinion. It wasn’t “your truth”. It was your experience.

I believe it’s gaslighting when you tell someone your experience of them or a situation and they say “That’s your truth”. The last time I checked, truth is not relative. Opinions aren’t always rooted in truth. But honest experiences are true. They don’t become false based off disagreement.

For example. If a mutual friend betrays me but doesn’t do the same to our other friend, it’s still betrayal. In fact, it’s likely a matter of time before they betray the other friend. I’ve seen scenarios like this. And it’s a shame when the friend who hasn’t been betrayed by the betrayer (yet) minimizes the experience of the friend who was betrayed because they didn’t experience the same thing.

Never allow someone to dismiss your experience as opinion. If it happened it was real. And don’t allow someone to say your experience wasn’t real simply because they don’t want to accept the truth. It wasn’t your opinion. It wasn’t “your truth”. It was your experience.
