Daily Life Talks: Breathe

breathe

Before you go on, I want you to stop, take a deep breath, exhale. Close your eyes and breathe.

Keep breathing as you read this. According to wikipedia, “Breathing (or ventilation is the process of moving air into and from the lungs to facilitate gas exchange with the internal environment, mostly to flush out carbon dioxide and bring in oxygen” In other words, breathing expels toxins from your body and intakes oxygen to your body. It’s a vital function and deeply impacts your quality of life.

Think about people who smoke cigarettes. Many go on to deteriorate the condition of their lungs and even develop cancer or emphysema. Asthmatics have to be careful of what type of air they expose themselves to. Those who suffer with anxiety often experience shortness of breath. And people who exercise in fresh air often experience wonderful health.

Today, give yourself the gift of breathing. Each day, take 5-10 minutes of your time to do deep breathing exercises. Over time, you’ll get used to it and you’ll better notice when you aren’t breathing like you should.

Without air and the ability to take it in, we die. It seems so simple that we take it for granted. So today, show gratitude for life by taking time each day to simply breathe.
