Daily Life Talks: Success Requires Grit

success requires grit

Merriam Webster defines grit as “firmness of mind or spirit unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger”. I want to say that courage does not mean you’re not afraid. It means that you’re able to keep moving forward in the face of whatever is causing you to be afraid. I think grit, then, is a firmness of mind and spirit that you have even in the face of what is unsettling. I know from experience that this is not easy.

Here is what I do to remain firm. First, I stay around people who pour into me and fill me up and I do the same for them. Second, I talk to people who are settled in their thinking when I am upset or unsettled. Third, I do my best to stick to a work out regimen and self-care routine that works for me. Physical activity and treating myself well brings a clarity of mind like few other things can.

At the end of the day, you have to make up your mind and go for it. Success requires grit. It requires that you settle the matter and stay the course until you know you have to change course. Settle down and keep going.
