If they won’t compliment or support you, they’re not your people. If you are learning a new skill, sharing new things you’re doing or striving for better and they won’t compliment or support you may want to think twice about the place you give them in your life. I don’t care if they are a family member, spouse or someone you thought was a friend. If they won’t support you by sharing what you’re doing, buying it or at least encouraging you they may not be who you think they really are.
If you are trying to improve your life in any way, you need your people. Backhanded compliments, snarky remarks, harsh criticism and complete silence are clues that particular people are not your people. I know it hurts to discover that someone you thought loved and cared about you is not your people. But I promise you will find your people once you recognize the people who are sharing your work, complimenting it, buying it or just encouraging you to do more of it.
