Where to Get Inspiration for Sewing Projects

1. Sewing Pattern Lookbooks or Catalogs:

One of the things I love about the McCall’s pattern brands it that they usually publish lookbooks for the upcoming season. The featured patterns are often picks from a range of skill sets and it’s easy to see at a glance what you may like and what you can actually complete. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, this is a great way to find ideas when you’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for.

2. Sewing Pattern Site Direct Search:

This is more for if you know exactly what you are looking for. For example, if you want an easy level Summer dress, you can filter your search and then review the results. This is my favorite way to find new projects to work on when I have an idea in mind.

3. Craft Stores:

I love going to craft stores that have sewing fabric, notions and more. I love talking to the employees and getting their opinions on a project I’m working on. They’re such a treasure trove of information! Those who have the most experience and are still practiced in sewing can often provide you with golden guidance on what sewing projects you should be working on per your skill set.

4. Other People:

This is one of my favorites. I have been known to stop other women, compliment their garment or accessory and then ask where they got it from. If it’s particularly arresting, I will ask if I can take a picture (without their face, of course…for privacy). If you do this, be sure to always adapt it to your own personal style!
